Our Process
Our intake process begins with a telephone consultation that covers topics ranging from type of animal found and the circumstances, age, and behavior observed. This information will help determine whether the animal should be admitted to Wanakia Wildlife.
When an animal is admitted to the center following this consultation, we briefly assess the animal’s species, age, symptoms and behavior. A more detailed exam and first aid will be rendered after the animal has had time to de-stress. In the case of injury, we will consult with a wildlife veterinarian and set up a treatment plan and an appointment if necessary.
Animals will be returned to the wild when they have fully recovered from their illness or injuries and demonstrate that they can once again thrive in their natural environment – or, in the case of wild orphans, are to the age of independence and demonstrate similar behavior.
