About Wanakia

Our Process

From the first phone call through rehabilitation and release, each step is centered on the animal's needs and a safe return to the wild whenever possible.

Our Process

From the first phone call to a safe return.

Wildlife rehabilitation begins before an animal arrives. A short phone consultation helps Wanakia understand what was found and decide whether admission is the right next step.

Call & Consult

Wanakia asks about the animal, its age or apparent life stage, where it was found, the circumstances and the behavior being observed. This helps determine whether the animal needs intervention and whether Wanakia can admit the species.

Wildlife during intake and initial assessment

Intake & Initial Assessment

After admission, the animal receives a brief assessment of species, age, symptoms and behavior. Time to de-stress comes before a more detailed examination whenever the situation allows.

Treatment & Rehabilitation

First aid, appropriate diet and species-specific housing support recovery. For injuries that require additional expertise, Wanakia may consult a wildlife veterinarian and develop a treatment plan.

Conditioning & Independence

Recovering animals and growing orphans are given the time and environment needed to regain strength, natural behavior and the independence required for life in the wild.

Release

Release happens when an animal has recovered or matured and demonstrates that it can once again survive in an appropriate natural environment without ongoing human care.
