Wanakia WildlifeRehabilitation & Education Center
About Wanakia

Species Served

Wanakia can help many native Wisconsin birds and mammals. Please call before transporting wildlife so the team can confirm the safest next step.

Typically Served

Native wildlife Wanakia can admit.

Admission depends on the individual case and available capacity, so a phone call is still required before arrival.

Birds

Most native Wisconsin bird species

This includes songbirds, waterfowl, wading birds and birds of prey.

Mammals

Selected Native Mammals

This includes small mammals such as opossums, cotton tail rabbits and squirrels. Wanakia is not permitted to accept woodchuck, skunks, raccoon, fox, coyote, deer or bats.

Call First

The right help starts with identifying the animal and the situation.

Before bringing wildlife to the center, call Wanakia at (414) 803-0388. A phone consultation helps determine whether the animal truly needs intervention, whether Wanakia is licensed and equipped to admit the species, and how to handle the situation safely.

If Wanakia cannot accept the animal, the team can direct you toward another licensed wildlife rehabilitator or an appropriate resource.
